Monster Girls Live tournaments:
We like to regularly host fighting game tournaments for people that either can't use or don't want to rely on the usual Discord/Start.gg software stack. We have a strong focus on Guilty Gear: Strive but will also often host one off tournaments for other games chosen based on community interest. We usually host events on Friday at 4:20pm ADT/AST and we try to do this bi-weekly but sometimes will do it more frequently than that. If you're interested feel free to join, the only requirement is that you join our Matrix room: #mongearlive:m.starshard.space if you have a Mastodon account or something compatible with it (e.g. Misskey) we highly recommend also following @gaming@monstergirls.live there, this is not required but highly recommended as we post a lot of updates there too.
Rules:
Here are the default rules, this is what we typically use for Strive (and most other fighting games) unless otherwise stated:
- All sets are first to 3 wins (best of 5)
- We use the round robin format for our events (you must play 1 set with everyone), we might change to a double elimination format if there is too many people (this hasn't happened yet at the time of writing this)
- If the TOs are not streaming you do not need to wait for them to tell you to play other people, use the scoreboard to find who you haven't played and use the Matrix room to coordinate
- During your sets the winner of the last game cannot switch their character UNLESS both players agree to the switch (loser of the last game is free to switch)
- Make sure you have a stable internet connection, if TOs can determine that you were at fault for a disconnect you will lose that game and frequent disconnects can result in being disqualified (wired internet is HIGHLY recommended to prevent this).
- In the same vein as the above please also make sure your machine can run the game reliably at 60fps, not doing so can result in rollback issues and therefore cause a lot of lag, consider installing a performance mod if you plan on using a low spec machine (failing to do so might also result in a disqualification)
- Obviously be nice to everyone participating, no raging or being toxic in the chat, bigotry of any kind (transphobia, racism, sexism, etc.) will result in a permanant ban. Don't make me have to write a full CoC or I will throw you into the sun.
FAQ that nobody asked:
- Q: What do I get if I win?:
A: Your results will be posted on a failing social media platform and will be seen by several mentally ill trans women across the globe. I can also idk, bake you a cake or something? I probably can't send it via mail tho.
- Q: What platform do you play on, is there restrictions for consoles?
A: For Strive it has crossplay on every version except the Switch version, so only the Switch version is unusable. For other games without crossplay you will need the PC version, most retro games will be played on FightCade if they can be played there.
- Q: You mentioned that you sometimes will host games that are not GGST how does that work, can I make a suggestion
A: We used to have a schedule where we would play Strive one bi-weekly and then play another game decided by a poll posted on @gaming@monstergirls.live the other week, technically making both of these events monthly events? As of the time of writing this Che5hire has been playing around with this schedule so we're not 100% sure if this is how it will work in the future.
- Q: Can I join even if I'm very bad?
A: The more the merrier. There's no entry fee and you don't really get anything for winning anyways. We usually host round robins too so you'll be able to play as much as you want and if you're not having fun you can just drop out. This is not supposed to be a serious thing.
I want to make an automated web directory where you can view previous results but for now I will post some examples of our previous tournaments manually (might be outdated):
